Primary Hours: 8:00 am - 5:00 pm

Position Description: The Newborn Screening Family Support and Resource Consultant is responsible for providing families with infants and children diagnosed with a disorder through newborn screening program, with support and resources to ensure that the family has equitable access to the care and resources needed to effectively manage the condition. This position will work with families, sub specialty clinics, and community partners.

Duties:

  • Communicate professionally with families of infants who have been diagnosed with an NBS disorder to provide resources and support.
  • Connect families to early intervention services and parent to parent support services.
  • Connect families to other resources, as needed.
  • Maintain a list of local, state, and national resources that provide support to families who have an infant diagnosed with a disorder
  • Maintain confidential records of infants/children in compliance with state/federal regulations as well as agency/program policies.
  • Work with the NBS Data Informatics Specialist to ensure data is entered correctly into database.
  • Completely and accurately enter survey data into the database as needed.
  • Communicate with providers, as needed, to ensure family's needs are being met.
  • Work closely with both public and private early intervention programs and family support services.
  • Collaborate with the all of the Newborn Screening team (hearing, blood spot short term follow up, and the NBS lab).
  • Training of other staff.
  • Assist in quality improvement initiatives.
  • Attend and participate in required trainings/meetings.

Minimum Qualifications:

Requirements consist of an associate's degree and one year of professional experience in public health, social work, child welfare, employment services, community-based services, community outreach, project management, case management, or communications, substituting one year of qualifying experience for each year of the required education, hold a valid permanent Oklahoma license as a licensed practical nurse as approved by the Oklahoma Board of Nursing, or Licensed Practical Nurse License recognized by the Enhanced Nurse Licensure Compact (eNLC. Current license (Licensed Practical Nurse) plus 2 years of practical nursing experience.

  • A general knowledge of the newborn screening process and disorders screened for.
  • Ability to document
  • Demonstrate very strong skills in organization and documentation, problem solving, and computer skills including Word, Excel, Teams, Outlook, and SharePoint.
  • Demonstrate excellent interpersonal skills, ability to work with culturally-diverse persons and communities, with the ability to be culturally sensitive and appropriate.
  • Knowledge of HIPAA and how to handle confidential information.
  • Knowledge of community and state resources and services.
  • Value diversity, equity, and inclusion and articulate the value it brings to an organization.

Physical Demands and Work Environment: This position is set in an office environment, computer based. While performing the duties of the job, employees are frequently required to stand, walk, lift, and reach.

Telework: This position is eligible for Hybrid Telework and is subject to OSDH policy and supervisor's discretion.
